88th minute rain interruption, Won Tae-in goes down after throwing 3 arirang balls “because of injury concerns…”

Won Tae-in (23), a native Samsung ace, was knocked out early due to rain in the Daegu KIA match on the 20th. He treated lead batter Kim Tae-gun 먹튀검증 with a ground ball in front of the pitcher in the 3rd inning, and then was replaced with 2 ⅓ innings, 2 hits, 4 walks, 1 strikeout and no runs. The number of pitches was only 33.

The momentum of Won Tae-in, who was cruising with no runs in the first or second innings, was blocked by rain. After climbing the mound in the third inning, heavy rain poured down. The referee declared a stoppage at 5:31 p.m., and it was stopped for 88 minutes before resuming at 6:59 after ground maintenance work.

After the game resumed, Won Tae-in, who was back on the mound, threw a lot of energy against Kim Tae-gun. He caught two strikes with a 94km changeup in the first pitch and a 78km curve in the second pitch, and induced a ground ball in front of the pitcher with a 91km slider in the third pitch.

After putting Kim Tae-gun out, Kim Dae-woo came up the mound and Won Tae-in went down with a shy smile. According to Article 5, Paragraph 10 of the Baseball Rules, if a pitcher crosses the foul line before the start of an inning, he must deal with one batter, and Won Tae-in could only go down the mound after Kim Tae-goon finished batting.

Unlike KIA starting pitcher Hwang Dong-ha, who continued pitching after the game resumed, Won Tae-in went down for a reason.

Samsung coach Park Jin-man said in an interview ahead of the match against Hanwha in Daejeon on the 22nd, “Won Tae-in had such a situation once before, and he said that he had something wrong with his body while throwing. He was worried about injury, so he dealt with only one batter and changed it.” He also explained that the decision to replace the coaching staff was made in order to protect the player.”

Won Tae-in went down early, but Kim Dae-woo (1⅔ innings scoreless) and Hong Jeong-woo (1⅔ innings, 1 run) continued well into the 5th inning, and Samsung won 6-4. Director Park Jin-man said, “Kim Dae-woo, who came after Won Tae-in, blocked it well. He praised the bullpen, saying, “It allowed the bullpen pitchers to fight well and win in the middle and late stages.”
