Winning for the first time in 29 years…Why did Chairman Koo Kwang-mo attend the meat restaurant dinner, not the hotel celebration
It’s been 29 years. The LG Twins lifted the Korean Series trophy for the first time in 29 years, since 1994.
Usually, after winning the Korean Series, the team goes to a hotel for a victory party. Owners, executives from the parent company, and others are present to toast the team and bask in the glory of victory.
However, on the night LG won the Korean Series for the first time in 29 years, the team disbanded after a late dinner at a meat restaurant near Jamsil Stadium. Even though the owner and LG Group chairman was in attendance.굿모닝토토 주소
Game 5 of the 2023 KBO League Korean Series between LG and KT at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Wednesday. With a 3-1 lead, LG was on track to win its first Korean Series title since 1994.
LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, who took over the reins from the late founder Koo Bon-moo, acting owner Koo Bon-yeom, and former owner Koo Bon-joon were all at Jamsil Stadium. LG fulfilled the wishes of all LG fans and defeated KT 6-2 to win its first Korean Series title in 29 years.
After enjoying the championship ceremony at Jamsil Stadium, the LG players went to a meat restaurant in Sincheon, a neighborhood near Jamsil Stadium, for a late dinner around 12 a.m. on the 13th.
“In case the Korean Series goes to Game 7, we have set aside the official championship celebration for the 16th or 17th,” said an LG team official, “so tonight (the 13th), the players will have dinner and dismiss without any ceremony.” The championship celebration will be held at LG Science Park in Seoul’s Magok district.
The team checked out of their hotel on Wednesday ahead of Game 5 of the Korean Series. If they lost Game 5, they planned to check back in. The plan was to end the series in Game 5, and they did just that.
LG owner Koo Kwang-mo and acting owner Koo Bon-nyeom attended the team’s dinner and spent time with the team as they ate and enjoyed the victory celebration. The meal didn’t end until after 1am. His affection for the team was evident.
Koo Kwang-mo cheered on LG at Jamsil Stadium for Game 1 of the Korean Series, his first official visit to the stadium since taking over as chairman of the group. He also visited the fourth game of the away series in Suwon and showed his support by cheering alongside LG fans. He visited Jamsil Stadium for Game 5 of the Korean Series, where the title was on the line.
After receiving the trophy at the end of Game 5, owner Koo Kwang-mo shared his overwhelming feelings of victory in front of LG fans on the field. He said, “I’m overwhelmed. Fans of the world’s best and invincible LG Twins. The LG Twins have finally won the championship after 29 years,” and the Jamsil Stadium echoed with cheers from LG fans.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the fans who have loved and supported the LG Twins even after 29 years of waiting,” Koo Kwang-mo said, addressing the LG fans. “Today’s victory was achieved together with everyone here and everyone who loves the LG Twins. I hope you all enjoy the joy of winning today. The LG Twins are the 2023 champions. Fighting LG, the invincible team.”
The majority of LG fans also enjoyed the victory at Jamsil Stadium before heading to the Sincheon nightlife district to celebrate. Later in the night, I had the good fortune to meet some of the LG players while walking to and from the LG team’s favorite restaurant. Some fans took photos with the players, including team manager Cha Myung-seok and Korean Series MVP Oh Ji-hwan, and posted them to the community.
